No. According to FDA guidance, non-surgical face masks such as ours — and all others on the market — are not classified as personal protective equipment (PPE). Our face mask is not intended to provide protection from fluids or to filter particles. Instead, it serves as a means of source control. That means it provides a barrier that helps stop respiratory droplets traveling into the air and onto other people (much like covering your mouth when you cough).
A study which examined the stability of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) on different surfaces found that no infectious virus could be recovered from printing and tissue papers after a 3-hour incubation, whereas a detectable level of infectious virus could still be present on the outer layer of a surgical mask on day 7.
Research shows that the MOO Paper Face Mask is just as effective as a single-use plastic mask. So you won’t be compromising on safety.
Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) tested it against a disposable plastic mask and found both masks reduced the amount of droplets expelled in a forward direction, compared to not wearing a face covering.
Based on the use of relative pixel brightness as a proxy for the measurement of droplets, results from RIT indicate similar levels of droplet expulsion for the Paper Face Mask and a disposable plastic face covering.
You can get branding, customizing, and making our paper masks your own, from a minimum order quantity of just 100 units.
The Paper Face Mask is classified as a non-surgical face mask: a device that covers the user’s nose and mouth. Like any other non-surgical face mask on the market, the Paper Face Mask has not been regulated by the FDA, but has been authorized under an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for use as source control, in accordance with CDC recommendations.
The product is (1) not intended for use in a surgical or clinical setting (2) not intended to provide liquid barrier protection (3) not intended for antimicrobial or antiviral protection, infection prevention or reduction, or related uses (4) not intended to filter particles.
